What is a Lead Magnet and Does My Business Need One?

What is a Lead Magnet and Does My Business Need One?

You’ve probably seen or even downloaded a lead magnet before. Basically, it’s a “freebie” in exchange for an email. They are a great opportunity to grow your email list and be top of mind (and inbox) for your potential clients. The goal is to make them want to give you their email.

What’s the purpose of a lead magnet?

A lead magnet’s main purpose is to grow your email list, and in turn your business and revenue. It not only shows your value and expertise in the HR and training field and collects emails from potential clients, but it also drives targeted traffic and leads to your website. Lead magnets also boost your visibility as a business and build credibility with your potential customers.

What types of lead magnets are there?

E-Books

These are short 5-10 page books that provide more information on a topic such as compliance, employer best practices, fostering an inclusive company culture, etc. The purpose of these e-books is to give enough information to educate your potential customers, but not too much where you’re giving all of your expertise away!

Checklists

Checklists are a fabulous lead magnet, especially around topics of compliance or best practices. Think of ways your potential clients would benefit from checklists like I-9 processes, things to have in an employee handbook, hiring best practices, etc.

On-Demand Webinars or Training

While a webinar or training can seem like a lot of work, the beauty of it is, once you record it, that’s it! People can access this on-demand after they input their email, and you don’t have to block off time on your schedule to give the training live. There is work on the front end, but this could be something well worth it to your business when you’re reaping the rewards of better visibility, thought leadership, and more targeted leads for your business.

Templates

Think job descriptions or performance improvement plans. These templates should be something your potential clients will need and find useful in their business.

Does my business need a lead magnet?

While it’s not required, it is, however, a great idea to have a lead magnet. Not only will it help drive traffic to your website, but it will also show your potential customers value in the services you provide as well as make it easy to collect emails for your email list. Once you start collecting emails, you can send out weekly emails with more information for you potential customers as well as a monthly newsletter. This will help keep your company top of mind when clients are looking for HR services.
